The Social Development Department sponsored a drug awareness symposium on March 3 to tackle the current mindset of the Center’s male students.
The presenters explained that some students make poor life choices because of their feelings of negative self-worth, the influence of societal conditioning or a need to numb past hurts. Students also learned that their greatest resource is their authority, right and power of choice.
They have the power to choose the path that they will travel in life, but they are also responsible and accountable for their actions.
The speakers challenged the students to make positive choices, engage in positive activities, to stretch themselves beyond their comfort zone and set higher goals for themselves. They also were
challenged to strive for goals that once might have seemed out of reach, such as becoming school teachers, doctors or lawyers.
