The students have gone to the dogs. And they had so much fun doing it.
On Wednesday, students Jade Jones, Nijah Bonner, Jason Roberts and Jaekwon Collier went to Cache Creek Animal Rescue of New Lenox to deliver more than 200 home-made and environmentally friendly dog toys to the shelter. They had worked with Debbie Curtis, Ardrenna Dean and Lisa Dove of the Records Department to make the toys from recycled T-shirts as a Mentor Wednesday project. Because they had created the largest number of toys, Center Director Christine Sanchez asked them to make the presentation.
The dogs loved the toys, and the students enjoyed their reaction. “I love dogs. I prefer dogs over cats,” Jaekwon said.
Jade particularly liked that there were so many pit bull mixes at the shelter. They are her favorite breed. “Pit bulls are not what you expect,” she said. “They’re loveable.”
Nijah and Jade spent a lot of time with Bella, an energetic dog who was tearing the toys apart. “Bella wanted out. She wanted to go for a walk!” Nijah said.
