Several members of the Joliet-area community visited the Joliet Job Corps Center for the first time on Dec. 10.
They attended the combined Community Relations Council and Center Industry Council meeting, the last one of 2015. Joliet City Councilmen Pat Mudron and Mike Turk, Joliet Police Officer Shawn Carnes and Joliet Neighborhood Services Director Alfredo Melesio had never been to one of the sessions.
The meeting focused on the Security/MILCAP trade, and students Elia Kernell, who enlisted Thursday in the Marines, and Xavier Gallegos talked about their training. Larry Peet, a former Laraway Consolidated School Board member and a Vietnam War veteran, attended the meeting and was impressed by the program.
“The Joliet Job Corps Center’s students are goal-oriented and focused on their futures,” Peet said.
