Representatives from local businesses, neighborhood groups and Congressman Bill Foster’s office attended the Community Relations Council meeting on March 31 at the Joliet Job Corps Center.
They all support the program and the Center’s students.
After sampling a breakfast prepared by the Center’s Culinary Arts’ students, the guests heard presentations from the Admissions, Career Development, Academic, Career Technical Training and Career Counseling Departments. They learned more about how students chose to attend the Center and the skills they acquire while enrolled.
Student Leianna Sullivan, who is about to enlist in the U.S. Army after completing the Security/MILCAP Trade, told the group about her experiences. Newer student Quentin Sanders explained why he
left a career as an over-the-road truck driver with a class A CDL drivers license and decided to enroll in the Center.
“I want more for myself,” Sanders said. “I want to own my own business.”
