The Joliet Job Corps Center’s students were delighted by the food from Pepe’s Mexican Restaurant during the Cinco De Mayo celebration on Thursday. They could choose between chicken, beef and pork tacos paired with several different kinds of shells.
“I didn’t know that we would be celebrating Cinco De Mayo,” student Amanda Vasquez said. After the meal, the students danced to Mexican music while some sang along.
In Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, the holiday is celebrated with a parade featuring costumed marchers, student Xavier Gallegos said.“I enjoyed our celebration last night,” Xavier said. “The food was great, we had good music and the decorations were really nice.”
