Breast Cancer Awareness Week at the Joliet Job Corps Center

Joliet Job Corps Center student Lisa Bowman educates her peers on the dangers of breast cancer.

Joliet Job Corps Center Student Leaders declared Oct. 22 as Breast Cancer Awareness day this year.

Student Lisa Bowman asked everyone on Center to wear something pink that day to recognize this important cause.

Students and staff wore pink shirts, socks, make-up and nail polish. Lisa and her peers spent the night before making pink ribbons for everyone to wear.

But it wasn’t just a ladies’ day to be pretty in pink. Many people don’t realize that men can develop breast cancer too. Every year, more than 300,000 men in the United States lose their lives to cancer. During our Structured Evening Programming, Lisa presented students with information to help them understand the severity of breast cancer and measures to decrease the risk of the disease.
