The Joliet Job Corps Center’s Academic Advisory Council and Community Relations Council Meeting on May 5 focused on South Suburban high schools.
BCL Stewart Warren invited deans, counselors and social workers from schools in the Crete-Monee, Tinley Park, Plainfield, Oak Forest and Richton Park communities to visit the Center and learn more about the program. None of them had ever visited the Center before.
Kevin Huhn, a social worker from Tinley Park High School was particularly impressed. “I am definitely going to talk with my supervisor and get the ball rolling on how we can utilize your resources for our students,” he said.
Pharmacy Tech students Kiara Pittman and Shyvonn Johnson spoke to the guests, telling them about their experiences at the Center and their plans for the future.
“I want to learn everything I can here about the medical field because I want to be a dentist,” Shyvonn told the group.
