An inspiring success story from a Ramey Job Corps graduate! Jonathan Velez attended a Carpentry Workshop approximately 18 years ago and currently practices Medicine. His office is held right across from the Ramey Job Corps center and at the clinic they allow our students to intern through WBL.
Jonathan entered the Ramey Job Corps at age 16. He was looking for a different experience than traditional education. He attended the Carpentry Workshop and finished his technical career in less than a year. His thirst for learning led him to enroll at the Interamerican University where he was admitted to the Business Administration Department but quickly his desire to help others led him to the Dominican Republic where he entered the “Universidad Central del Este” to complete his studies in medicine and then completed two Master’s Degrees in Clinical Nutriologist and Management of Health and Social Security in “ Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo”. Originally from the town of Aguadilla and with a deep love for his native country, Jonathan returned to Puerto Rico and currently practices medicine in the city where he was born, where he serves the community with his profession and with his example of self-improvement and determination.
Jonathan advises all young people not to let stigmas hold them back, just as he did, and assures that Job Corps is “where a new opportunity begins.” Thank you Dr. Velez for serving as an inspiration and being an example of improvement.
