Jordan and Jayden sisters who came to Old Dominion Job Corps

Jordan and Jayden are sisters who came into the program at Old Dominion, one in October 2022 and the younger sister in March 2023. The sisters were recruited from the Norfolk area, where they resided with their father. They enrolled in the program with their high school diplomas and completed the Painting and Carpentry trades. While in the program, both girls obtained their driver’s licenses without experience before enrolling. Sadly, while in the program, their father passed away. The girls persevered and stayed to complete two trades, maintaining stellar student status and staying focused and on task. They were given high remarks by Carpentry and Painting instructors serving as leads in their trades. Upon completion, in July 2024, they moved in with their aunt in Connecticut and prospered due to the training received at Old Dominion Job Corps. They were both employed in September 2024, working for a nuclear power plant (Westinghouse Electric Co LLC) in Connecticut, and they were hired to utilize their expertise in both trades completed. In following up on the girls, the employer states that they are excellent and hardworking young ladies, adhering to rules and always on time for work. They earn $38.12 an hour, two of the highest wages ever placed by our center. The girls have purchased their first car and are looking to move into their place within the next two weeks. These young ladies have been and continue to be true successes, exemplifying what our program is designed for.
