Letchia Hickey was born in Jamaica Queens , New York City. As a child she had a passion for helping others. She attended P.S 48 elementary then moved on to I.S. 8 preparatory middle school. After the passing of her mother in 2001, Letchia relocated to Apopka, Florida where she attended Piedmont Lakes Middle School. In 2005 she enrolled in Edgewater High school. Towards the end of her senior year, Letechia was in a dilemma as to what she would do with her life after graduation, after a heart to heart discussion with a family member who attended Job Corps, Letechia decided to give Job Corps a chance.
During orientation she picked Medical Assisting as her trade of choice. Letechia’s research led her to call her local Worksource recruiter and on August 21st 2007 she left Orlando, Florida to settle on the campus of Jacksonville Job Corps. Two months into the program Letechia wanted more, after orientation with a local college-(Florida Technical College) she enrolled on October 27th, 2007 where she obtained an Associates in Science Degree. Letechia graduated from Job Corps on June 19th 2009.
During her transition from Job Corps she volunteered at the Job Corps Child Development Center there the director saw her potential and strong work ethic and offered Letechia a position ,she became a full time employee on June 8th 2009, Letechia has plans to attend Florida Community College to pursue her Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education,to ultimately become a third grade teacher working with mentally and physically challenged .
