As part of the first ever Mentor a Job Corps Student Day, local and government elected officials were asked by centers to allow Job Corps students to be exposed to the inner workings of the legislative branch of government and get an inside glimpse of the role elected officials play in the decision making process, and the importance of Congress to Job Corps.
Robert Thornton (Senator Bill Nelson), Crystal Emery(Senator Marco Rubio), Abril Pollard(Senator Marco Rubio), Gregory Johnson(City Councilman Johnny Gaffney) and Anthony Bethel( Congresswoman Corrine Brown) were students who had the opportunity to intern in congressional and city offices in this inaugural event. The students spent the day with regional directors visiting the naval base, attending luncheons with constituents, learning about the city of Jacksonville, touring offices and meeting district staff members, etc.
The students were proud to be representing Jacksonville Job Corps and appreciate the honor and priviledge provided to them through this event.
