Article: Jacksonville Job Corps students “Made The Difference” during the annual Make A Difference Day National Campaign by volunteering with the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure event. Without a cure a 1 in 8 women in the US will continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer.
Students began their volunteer efforts on October 17th and worked tirelessly to assist the organization with their preparation for the event on October 22nd. Students stuffed over 3000 of the 5000 bags needed for the event, they set-up over 50 tables and hundreds of chairs and assisted in folding hundreds of T Shirts. In addition to volunteering the SGA led a fundraiser of $600.00 to contribute to the event. Students and staff shared in the fundraising effort.
Forty five students and 7 staff members donated over 174 man hours to this wonderful cause. The students at the Jacksonville Job Corps Center realize the value in volunteering and provide services to the community at least 4 times per month. They appreciate the gift afforded them through the program and want to give back to the community through service and excellence in training and educational development.
