The Jacksonville Job Corps center proclaimed October 27th as Conflict Resolution Day. The theme for the day was Resolving Conflict in the Workplace. Mayor Alvin Brown issued a Proclamation declaring October 27th as Conflict Resolution Day at the Jacksonville Job Corps Center. The activities began at 9:45a.m. and ran throughout the day.
Job Corps recognizes the counter productive and dangerous situations that can occur because of bullying and un-resolved conflict among youth, and is working to teach young people how to handle conflict in a non-violent manner.
Former Fla. State Senator Tony Hill delivered the Proclamation from the City of Jacksonville. The day was filled with speakers that addressed the legal ramifications of un-resolved conflict, skits, and workshops addressing Suicide, Bullying, Sexual Assault, Relationship Conflict and Leadership. Ms. LaFonda Gibson Middleton, a local attorney was the key note speaker for the event. She shared with the audience incidents of poor decision making and advised them to always think before acting.
At the end of the day 350 students and over 100 staff members all signed the proclamation committing to finding meaningful ways to resolve and eliminate conflict. The Proclamation will be framed and placed at the center as a testimony to their commitment to resolving conflict and keeping Job Corps a safe and conflict free environment.
