Media: Annex Opens-Will Interface With Job Corps

New SIATech Annex Targets High School Dropout Recovery

The new SIATech Annex, scheduled to open in January 2013, targets high school dropouts who want to train in the Federal Jobs Corp•Education•high school diploma.Advertisement On Thursday, the School for Integrated Academics and Technologies announced groundbreaking for the Jacksonville Annex, a tuition-free public charter high school enrolling high school dropouts who are awaiting placement in the federal Job Corps.

Scheduled for 11:20 a.m. on Wed., Sept. 19, ceremonies take place at 4727 Walgreen Rd., Jacksonville.

Michael LaRoche, prinicpal at the existing SIATech Jacksonville campus said, “The new SIATech Annex will interface with Jacksonville Job Corps Center by allowing prospective Job Corps trainees to attend high school classes while they are awaiting enrollment in the Job Corps program.”

Scheduled speakers are an SIATech Jacksonville graduate and representatives from the offices of State Sen. Audrey Gibson, D-District 1, and Denise Lee, Jacksonville City Councilwoman from District 8.

Like the existing SIATech Jacksonville site, the Annex will focus on serving re-enrolled dropouts who are interested in earning a standard high school diploma in an innovative classroom environment.

Superintendent and Chief Education Officer for SIATech Dr. Linda Dawson said, “SIATech is pleased to extend its outreach in Jacksonville to the larger community after a successful eight- year charter school effort in partnership with Job Corps.”

“We are proud to have graduated over 600 former dropouts from SIATech Jacksonville and will increase that number in the larger Jacksonville community through our Jacksonville Annex and the MYcroSchool Jacksonville charter high schools,” she said.

The SIATech Jacksonville Annex is expected to open in January 2013 and with a maximum of 100 students with sessions available mornings and afternoons.

Pre-enrollment student interest forms are being collected now.
