Students from the Jacksonville Job Corps Material Handler’s class participated in a week long volunteer community service project with the Material Handling and Support Operations of Jacksonville. The Christmas Party of Jacksonville is a program in which numerous companies in Jacksonville join forces to provide hundreds of toys for needy children and their families. Parents sign up for the program months in advance so that they are eligible to recieve the toys for their children.
The Material Handling and Distribution has participated in this project for the last three years and as the years go by our involvement increases. Because of the massive amount of toys donated there are an extremely large amount of pallets of cardboard and recycle materials. Last year one of our students unloaded, received and sorted over 10 trucks in two days. This year the students gathered and separated over 4 tons of cardboard. In addition to providing a needed community service the students are also getting hands on expereince in their trade. Congratulations to the students in the Material Handling Class.
