Jacksonville Job Corps Spotlight on Excellence

(JACKSONVILLE, Florida) The Jacksonville Job Corps Center is proud to showcase their Faces of Success series. This series is designed to showcase success stories of Jacksonville Job Corps graduates. Student graduate from the program weekly but a formal graduation is held twice a year. This years’ graduation will be held at the Jacksonville Job Corps Center on August 23, 2013 at 2:00p.m. Recent graduates of the program include Mr. Ibrahim Nyei, former SGA Representative. Ibrahim recently graduated from JJC with a certification in the electrical trade. Before leaving the center he enlisted with the United States Army and was deployed May 2013. His background is similar to many of our students at Job Corps, students who are in search of an opportunity to improve their lives. Ibrahim came to the United States from Sierra Leone West Africa. His family arrived here to start a life for their children. He attended a local high school here in Jacksonville but could not past the FCAT. He was disappointed with himself but his mother was determined that her son would get his high school diploma and finally decided to enroll her son in Job Corps to get his HSD and a trade. Ibrahim chose the electrical trade and excelled, he loved his trade and had tremendous respect for his instructor Mr. Randy Hamm. Ibrahim parents always believed in their son. Mr. & Mrs. Fofannah are both residents in the Jacksonville community, his mother a nurse and his father a businessman who operates a local grocery store. In May 2013, Ibrahim completed the Jacksonville Job program and enlisted in the United States Army where he successfully completed his training in Combat Lifesaving, Basic Training and Field Artillery Cannon Crew member Training. He currently stationed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Ibrahim returned to Jacksonville this week and was compelled to share his journey with the students at the Jacksonville Job Corps Center. He said. “I’ve been where you are and I know what it feels like to be uncertain of your future, but because I struck with the Job Corps program I am a living witness as to what believing in your self and your dreams can do for you. If there is anything I can leave with you it is to never give up on your dreams and to always stay positive. Ibrahim plans to remain in the military as a career to become a captain in the United States Army. Mr. Kenderson Hill, Center Director stated how proud he was of Ibrahim and all the students who make life altering decisions to change their lives through the Job Corps program.
