Jacksonville Job Corps Student Gets Opportunity to Intern in Rep. Corrine Brown’s Office.

The Jacksonville Job Corps Center is proud to showcase their Faces of Success series. This series is designed to showcase success stories of Jacksonville Job Corps graduates. Student graduate from the program weekly but a formal graduation is held twice a year. This years’ graduation will be held on August 24, 2012 at 2:00p.m.

The Jacksonville Job Corps center is proud to feature Ms. Shanterria Prince as our June Face of Success. Ms. Prince is a 21 year old Office Administration student from Americus, Georgia. Shanterria came to Job Corps July of last year and will be graduating in the upcoming August graduation. Shanterria completed her trade and received her Microsoft OPEAC certification. After receiving her high school diploma from Americus Sumpter High School Shanterria decided to attend Job Corps to take advantage of the opportunity the program offer to get certified in a trade.

Congresswoman Brown is a strong supporter of Job Corps and has always extended opportunities to our students. Last year two students from Job Corps interned in her office for 2 months, this year Shanterria had the awesome opportunity to intern. She was in the congresswoman’s office for 4 weeks; she answered the phones, assisted with community projects and the Annual Corrine Brown Job Fair. “The experience was an opportunity of a lifetime” said Ms. Prince. Shanterria is really proud of completing the 5000 badges for the Job Fair.

Upon graduation Shanterria will return to Americus for a brief employment and in the fall she will return to Jacksonville to begin college at Florida State College of Jacksonville. Shanterria is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. James Baker and has a 12 year old brother who she loves very much. Prince ultimate goal is to get her bachelor’s degree, get a job and take her parents out to dinner; my family has been my rock”.

During her time here at Job Corps she said that she could not have done it without the help of Ms. Zena Foster, Ms. Kirkland (instructor) and Ms. Scott, “they were always there to listen to me and provide support”. The students and staff at the job corps center are extremely proud of Ms. Prince.
