Students in D Quad at the Jacksonville Job Corps Center participated in an on-going community service partnership with Dignity U Wear. The program’s focus is procuring new clothing and delivering them to people for whom it will make the most difference. The organization serves hundreds of agencies with a variety of missions, their focus is on three priority area; school children, veterans and women and girls.
DUW was founded in 2000 by Mr. Henri Landwirth, “I started Dignity U Wear because I was in the concentration camps for five years with no clothes, after I left the camps, I was 18 years old and homeless. I promised myself that one day God willing, I would be able to help others people not to suffer as I did.” To date, Dignity U Wear has distributed over 6.6 million pieces of clothing valued at over 120 million families in 50 states.
The students at the center have been volunteering with the organization since the Global Youth Day project and enjoy making a difference in the local community. The students final volunteer opportunity for the end of the year was on December 10, 2011.
