Before the fair opens in late August, there is always a flurry of repair and refurbishment on the state fairgrounds. Building and construction trades are housed in the AFL-CIO building and volunteer union workers keep the building in good shape. This year, through the IUPAT Council, Humphrey Job Corps students were asked to participate with union workers. Using power hoses to clean and then working on the wood surfaces gave the students a different kind of experience than their usual painting projects. Supervised by instructor John Kaiser they surveyed the scope of the project and then students Austin Hallin and Troy Yarbrough climbed the scaffolds to make it happen.
