To the Editor:

One of the most important keys to St Paul’s economic recovery is the Hubert H Humphrey Job Corps, which partners with our local leaders, community groups and businesses to help young people overcome their challenges and become hard-working, taxpaying members of our community.

I have worked with Humphrey Job Corps almost since its inception thirty years ago and have watched its young people emerge from this program ready to go to work in a career. They are taught work habits that help them to get a job, keep a job and advance their careers and lives.

Humphrey Job Corps is one of 125 centers across the country that serves about 60,000 students each year. Approximately 90% of graduates go on to find and keep jobs, pursue higher education or enlist in the military.

Fortunately, our elected officials recognize the important role Job Corps plays.

I appreciate the support that Congresswoman Betty McCollum, State Senator Mary Jo McGuire, Mayor Coleman and Mayor Rybaak offer and hope that they will continue to work hard to ensure an investment in Job Corps, which helps our young people, boosts our local economy and supports private-sector jobs.

Job Corps works in Minnesota.

Sincerely,
