Kawie Mkomo stood proudly on the evening of his induction into the union with three of the men who have helped him with his goals. Kawie did complete his IUPAT training at Humphrey Job Corps and got a non-union job without benefits when he first started working. He now has a union job with Washche Interiors doing commercial painting earning a $3 per hour salary increase and a full benefits package. Union organizer Craig Peek helped him to make the transition. John Kaiser, IUPAT instructor at Humphrey, trained Kawie and followed his progress after graduation. Tom Aasheim, Apprenticeship Coordinator for the union, worked with him at the union training center. Each student who comes through the Humphrey program is helped by a team to achieve his or her ambitions.
