Job Shadow experiences for the students at Hubert H Humphrey were as varied as the many students who participated, but perhaps the most unique was that enjoyed by Walter McMasters III, a TCU student who shadowed John Hoffman, newly elected to the Minnesota State Senate. Walter spent most of the day in committee meetings and on the floor of the Senate with the senator. His meetings included a discussion on integration analyses of success rates in public schools and an economics committee that was reviewing minimum vs. livable wage issues. “It changed my view of politicians and how hard they work…and how long committee meetings can go on. The senator filled me in as we went along, I got to help to prepare materials for the meeting and I got to be on the floor of the Senate. I feel truly fortunate. If it wasn’t for Job Corps, I’d never have an opportunity like this.”
