Humphrey Culinary Arts students were an integral part of the Charlie Awards event, an annual showcase for the exceptional restaurant, food and beverage community in Minneapolis/St Paul. This awards event draws in the best chefs from both cities. The festive occasion featured live music, entertainment and sample-sized dishes prepared by student chefs from three culinary schools as a prelude to the Chefs’ Dinner. Humphrey students were also part of the promotional TV ads leading up to the event and did an advance cooking session of their dishes before the cameras with the local FOX TV host Todd Walker (red shirt.) TV spots featuring the students and their dishes were shown on the local FOX affiliate and social media. Their menu included stout braised short ribs, mini-sliders made from chorizo, beef and pork with an avocado cream sauce and oven roasted truffle potatoes with bacon and parmesan bread crumbs. They served these delicacies to over three hundred guests during the cocktail hour and, as you can see from the right hand photo, were a popular choice. Participating students: Ebony Dixon, Jonathan Blaylock, Alyssa Schermer and Dah’von Woodard under the guiding hand of Chef Bill Neimer.
