Hubert H Humphrey JCC celebrated its 30th Anniversary on October 28, 2011. Congressman Betty McCollum delivered the 30th Address, focusing on the rights and responsibilities of being a good citizen. Congresswoman McCollum had just returned from overseeing first-time voting in Tunisia and she told the students how lucky they were to be able to exercise their United States rights. She also took this occasion to present Center Director Dave MacKenzie with a plaque commemorating Hubert H Humphrey Job Corps Center’s entry into the House of Representatives’ Congressional Record, 112th Congress. U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar sent congratulations by video and U.S. Senator Al Franken and Congressman Keith Ellison sent letters of congratulations. Mayor George Latimer, who was mayor when this Job Corps opened, also spoke, as did Center Director Dave MacKenzie. MacKenzie has been at Hubert H Humphrey for 23 of its 30 years and he reminisced about some of the many stand-out students and then delivered a strong message of hope for the future. Janna Graham, Academic Manager, had made a short video of students and their views on success which was followed by a montage video of the last 30 years created from many old files. Culinary Arts served cake as guests visited the student trade booths set up to showcase their skills.
