Four Culinary Arts students from HH Humphrey were chili chefs at a fundraiser for a Mendota Heights police officer shot to death during a routine traffic stop. Officer Scott Patrick left behind a wife and two daughters and the money raised will go into the Scott Patrick Memorial Fund. The event included live music, an auction, a raffle and the chili cook-off. One of the volunteers for the fundraiser is Bill Niemer, a Culinary Arts chef at Humphrey. He challenged his students to prepare their best chili recipes for a competition at the event. People paid for a ticket to sample the chili recipes and vote for their favorite recipe. This part of the event raised over $1000; Davon Dye won first place with his white chicken chili and Alex Zamorra took second place with his Chorizo and sweet corn chili. “The students represented themselves, HH Humphrey and me in a very professional manner,” said Chef Bill, “I was extremely proud of them.”
