Fifty-one Humphrey TCU students and staff prepared and packed 19,244 MannaPack™ meals at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) for delivery to Haiti. Working in teams, they packed rice, extruded soy nuggets, a mixture of vitamins, minerals and a vegetarian flavoring with dehydrated vegetables into packages that are then sealed and packed. The formula is designed to save the lives of severely malnourished children and improve their health and growth. This formula was developed jointly by the FMSC founders, General Mills and Cargill. A single bag of food provides nutritious meals for six children for about $1.32. The ingredients are purchased but the labor is all voluntary. FMSC ships these meals to nearly 70 countries around the world where NGOs, churches and other community-based organizations distribute them.
