Hubert H Humphrey celebrated its 2014 Winter Graduation on February 7th. Sixty-eight Completers donned cap and gown to participate in this recognition of their accomplishments. Forty GEDs and High School diplomas were also acknowledged in the ceremony. The program opened with the graduation procession and the Presentation of the Colors by the MN Army National Guard accompanied by a rousing rendition of the National Anthem. After greetings from CD David MacKenzie, two student speakers talked about their very different paths into Job Corps; one came from Ethiopia and the other came from the U.S. South via the homeless community. Each credited Job Corps as a life-changing experience. The guest speaker was Congresswoman Betty McCollum, a seven term Democrat who serves on the House Appropriations Committee, several subcommittees and is the Senior Democratic Whip in the Democratic Caucus. The Congresswoman is also a member of the Friends of Job Corps Congressional Caucus and her words resonated with encouragement, care and respect for Humphrey students.
