Congressman Keith Ellison visited the Hubert H. Humphrey Job Corps on Monday, March 11th. In the nursing assistant training lab, he complimented Ashley Thomas on her patient’s (Diamond Young) remarkable recovery as CNA instructor LaDonna White looked on and in Culinary Arts he enjoyed cookies warm from the oven. Congressman Ellison also met Painting students working on a center project, a class for EL students and a HS Diploma class deep into algebraic problems. He asked students if they felt that they had made a good choice by coming to Job Corps and how did they feel about their progress? To a person, the congressman said that he could see that each student felt pride in her/his accomplishments and newly acquired competencies. With their permission, he had his deputy director shoot a photo of him with the student and then tweeted out a message to 47,000 of his Twitter followers. This was the Congressman’s first visit to the center, but he promised to come back soon. “It’s a great program and I’m a big supporter,” he said as he left.
