Twenty-three Humphrey students were again part of the volunteer cadre at this year’s Festival of Nations in downtown St. Paul. Sponsored by the International Institute, benefits from the Festival support aid efforts to new immigrants to the U.S. who come to live in St. Paul. “Celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2012, the Festival of Nations has become one of the largest multi-cultural events in the United States. The Festival offers tantalizing food at 35 cafes from around the globe, international bazaars with imported and unique gifts, ethnic artists demonstrating their unique skills passed down from generation to generation, and continuous entertainment presenting over 90 adult and children’s dance groups with brilliant costumes and authentic ethnic choreography.” In addition to all their hard work, the students were able to sample exotic food and see some of the imported crafts and cultural exhibits. Hla Htway, Dionnete Watley, J’Nae Westbrook, Raisha Ferguson and Isiah Emons played with animal puppets at Omar Barreto’s Venezuelan booth while Diamond Young helped serve Scandinavian treats with her new friends.
