Earth Day clean-up

Earth Day clean-up

Earth Day activities were celebrated last Monday at Humphrey JCC. Minnesota is characterized by chaotic weather in the spring and the previous week had brought rainstorms and freezing weather, but our Earth Day was full of sunshine and hope for our small piece of the planet. Early in the morning, classrooms and common areas were cleaned and shined up. By mid-morning, 255 students and 26 staff members had spread out across the acres to rake and clip and clean up in efforts that expanded out into our neighboring community. Electric vehicles with trailers (instead of the snow plows) were used to place the picnic tables on the lawns and by lunchtime the center was looking like it had shed its winter coat for spring green. The cafeteria prepared a wonderful picnic lunch using the outside BBQ and then an afternoon of field activities and nature walks were held.
