U.S. Flag presented to “precious asset to the entire community” Sharon P. Haxton

By Lesly Diaz, Homestead Job Corps Center Business and Community Liaison

On June 21 Homestead Job Corps Center (HJCC) held its quarterly Community Relations Council (CRC) meeting.  The meeting honored outgoing CRC Chairperson Sharon Haxton of Chapman Partnership and welcomed incoming CRC Chairperson Jesika Davis of American Red Cross.  The highlight of the CRC meeting was when Debbie Musgrove Zimmerman, Chief of Staff for the Honorable Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Pedro Villa, Regional Director for the Honorable Bill Nelson surprised Haxton by presenting her the Flag of the United States of America flown over the U.S. Capitol on June 13, 2012.  The Flag was flown at the request of the Honorable Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Member of Congress, “in honor of Sharon P. Haxton for her faithful community service to the residents of South Florida.  She is a precious asset to the entire community.”  Staff and students at Homestead Job Corps Center certainly agree.  “Sharon has been involved with HJCC since it opened over twelve years ago.  She is one of the first people I met when I came on-board as Business and Community Liaison at HJCC five years ago.  She introduced herself to me at a Homestead/FL City Chamber of Commerce meeting.  I knew from our conversation what a big heart she has for all that she’s involved with in the community including the HJCC”.

“I want to thank all of the HJCC CRC members for all their support and challenge them to continue serving the Job Corps students and staff … and our new Chairperson, Jesika Davis.  You all are a wonderful asset to our South Dade community and to the Job Corps program!” exclaimed Haxton.

She continued “I can’t tell you all how much the presentation of the US Flag meant to me today.  It has been my honor to serve as Chair of Job Corps CRC the last two years, but today was definitely extra special.”
