The Homestead Job Corps Center’s Training Department is excited to announce that our Academic Olympic Team came in 2nd Place on August 25, 2010 in Washington, DC. They competed against five Job Corps Centers. It was a challenging and rewarding experience for our students. They worked really hard, studying for several months. Their team spirit and conduct is to be commended. I have been told that staff members from other Centers were trying to transfer our students to their Center because of their scholarly achievements.
We would like to applaud Homestead Job Corps Center Instructors Ms. Michelle Neal, Ms. Emma Ordonez and Ms. Virginia Anton for coaching and preparing our students. Student Seth H. challenged all other participants in math. He answered every math question correctly; beating the clock each time in under 10 seconds. Our students even corrected the judges when words were mispronounced. The entire team included:
Jordan B.
Geovanny E.
Seth H.
Jonathan M.
Jacinda M.
Omar P.
