On Friday, April 29, 2011 Homestead Job Corps Center students and staff participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life held at Homestead Hospital. In addition to raising over $2,200 for cancer research, Homestead Job Corps Center staff and students assisted at the Relay for Life by filling “luminaria” bags with sand and candles. The luminaria bags are then lit at one time and the glow fills the walkway while attendees remember those people who lost their battle to cancer and those who survived cancer. Over 20 booths exhibited at the event. The evening was full of dancing, music, various contests and fundraisers. The Homestead Job Corps Center team is already preparing for next year’s Relay for Life.
