On June 11th, the Hartford Job Corps Academy staff and students volunteered at the 7th Annual “A Sporting Chance for Youth Day” at Riverfront Recapture, Inc. They assisted the planning committee with various organizational tasks and set up. The event was designed to encourage youth to stay safe and be active with the goal of exposing them to the wide range of positive activities available during the warm weather months. A few of the activities students enjoyed included: rowing, fishing, soccer, Zumba, climbing, orienteering, mountain biking, cricket, basketball, and baseball. Over 100 volunteers from a variety of organizations and businesses helped make the event a success. The event included demonstrations from groups including, Jaycees Soccer and CT Reds, Hartford Wild Cats Pop Warner Football, RRI Adventure Program, CT Bass Federation and CT Outdoors Fishing, and the East Coast Renegades Basketball Team.
