Hartford Job Corps helps Meagan Rodriguez ‘bank on’ a successful career

Does Job Corps training lead to success for today’s students? You can “bank” on it, says Meagan Rodriguez!  The 21-year-old IFS Customer Service Banking graduate of the Hartford Job Corps Academy is now employed as a bank teller at TD Bank in Wethersfield, CT, working in an industry she absolutely loves.  “I can’t wait to go to work in the morning,” says a confident Meagan. “The people and the customers there are so sweet. My Job Corps training has really prepared me well for what I do.”  Originally from New Jersey, Meagan learned about Job Corps while visiting her cousins in Hartford. She was a student at the Hartford Academy from November 2010 to July 2011.  As a Job Corps IFS Banking completer, Meagan is certified in today’s office skills and computer programs such as Payroll, Booking, Accounts Payable Fundamentals, Accounts Receivable, IC3 and Microsoft Office Specialist. These certifications have prepared her well for her job at TD Bank.  She also credits Job Corps for her new love of math. “I used to hate numbers and I barely got by in math,” she says. “Until banking, I didn’t know how interesting it could be. It’s made me look at math in a whole different way.”  Meagan enjoys her early taste of the banking industry and envisions moving forward in her career field as she “learns the ropes.” Today, she recommends Job Corps to anyone who will listen.  “People at Job Corps have patience and they really care about you,” she says. “They stay on top of you and they won’t let you fail. They go out of their way to make sure you are successful. I’m a perfect example.”
