On Friday, June 3, 2011, students from the Hartford Job Corps Academy participated in the 4th Annual Youth-4-Change Conference held at Capital Community College in Hartford, CT. The event was sponsored by City Hall and the organizers of the conference included both youth and adults. The goal was to bring together young adults to brainstorm solutions to many issues youth face and to develop strategies to create positive change in their communities. Participants chose from one of ten workshops designed and led by youth that addressed issues of teen dating violence, binge drinking, community improvement, self-expression, and preparing for the future. Enid Rey, Director of the Office for Youth Services, opened the conference on behalf of Mayor Pedro Segarra. The keynote address was by the Latino Youth Collective of Indiana, a panel of young people who shared their experiences and learned that, through hard work and dedication, goals can be achieved.
