Hartford Job Corps Academy “Let’s Move Cities & Towns” Kickoff

The Hartford Job Corps Academy is doing their part in support of the First Lady’s initiative “Let’s Move Cities & Towns” by taking specific steps to improve the school environment. We are planning activities that will increase physical fitness and implementing programs that teach the importance of good nutrition. According to Shape Magazine and the American Fitness Index, Hartford is the 7th fittest city in the nation. Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra, and CT Department of Labor Commissioner Dennis Murphy, kicked off the initiative on June 21st by attending a ceremony at the Job Corps to recognize our major supporters and partners, the Hartford Food System and the Hartford Childhood Wellness Alliance. On that day, special recognition was given to the Co-Opportunity Youth Build program and the 19 students who built the raised-box garden on center that will provide us with fresh herbs and vegetables. Future events include staff and student activities designed to increase physical fitness and healthy lifestyles. “Let’s Move HJCA!!!”
