Ashley David enrolled in the Hartford Job Corps Academy in February 2011. As a young mother, she worked very hard to overcome personal and financial difficulties with zest and professionalism. She entered the Academy with her high school diploma and successfully completed the Insurance and Financial Services Banking Career Technical Training. She also took part in a work-based learning opportunity as an Administrative Assistant for the City of Hartford. She graduated from her CTR class with two job offers and is proud to be working as a bank teller at Farmington Bank, in Bristol, CT.
One of the highlights of Ashley’s life as a student was that she was selected to and presented on behalf of HJCA during the Commission on Children Forum, “The Challenges of Youth Unemployment: The New Great Depression.” The forum was well attended by Senator Richard Blumenthal, State Legislators, and members of CTDOL, local WIB, representatives from Washington, D.C., local organizations, and youth from several schools within the State of Connecticut. The forum was held in the Legislative Office Building. More info can be found on http://www.ctn.state.ct.us/daily_schedule.asp and at http://ct-n.com/ondemand.asp?ID=7329
