Youth 2 Youth Ambassadors Present “The Question”

Glenmont Job Corps Center’s Youth 2 Youth Ambassadors recently held a program to raise awareness of bullying and violence in the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) community. The event took place on Thursday May 19, 2016 during both lunch periods. The Y2Y ambassadors were set up in Times Square with information boards displaying facts and statistics about bullying and violence, and another board represented the rainbow pride flag and the meanings of each color. Along with sharing information, ribbons were handed out to students and staff to wear. That evening at the Social Development Assembly, the Y2Y ambassadors presented questions to students to quiz them on the facts that they read that afternoon. Prizes were handed out to the students who answered the questions correctly. “I enjoyed the activity; many students enjoyed reading the facts and wearing the ribbons, and of course the candy. It was nice to educate our Glenmont community on things that truly happen in the LGBTQ community,” stated Y2Y ambassador Antwone Weatherspoon.
