SENATOR GEORGE AMEDORE ATTENDS GLENMONT COMMUNITY RELATIONS COUNCIL BREAKFAST

On Friday, December 11, 2015, Glenmont Job Corps Center held its quarterly Community Relations Council Breakfast in the Red Brick Café. Hevita Franklin and Delvon Hunter, MAA students, did a fine job greeting our guests as they entered and Chef Beth Koster and her dynamic culinary students provided a hearty breakfast for all in attendance.
We were delighted to have Senator George Amedore with us to meet students and staff. Business and Community Liaison, Ann Marie Morin kicked off the meeting with introductions and an overview of the Job Corps program. Then, Center Deputy Director Erin Ferguson spoke of her career with Glenmont Job Corps and proudly announced that Glenmont remains in the top five out of 125 Job Corps Centers in the nation. The chairman of ISC-Audubon, Ron Dodson, was our guest speaker and he spoke of how Job Corps centers contribute employable individuals who support his organization’s goal of creating sustainable communities. He also shared his experi-ence working with our students on creating the Nature Trail at Colonial Acres Golf Course. During the Q & A period, Christina Rojette of Equinox, spoke of how much she learned about Job Corps while taking a tour and encouraged other attendees to take the tour. She also spoke of working with our students during the Equinox Thanksgiving dinner preparation this year and stated that our students were both hard working and professional in their presentation.
The highlight of the meeting was when MAA student Cory Waterbury took the stage and spoke of his family, his decision to attend Glenmont Job Corps and all he has achieved while here. Everyone was impressed by Cory’s dedication to his son and wife, his overcoming shyness and poor body language, and his professional goals.
After the meeting was adjourned, Ms. Morin took five of the guests on a tour of the Center. All five guests were thrilled with the opportunity to meet and speak and meet with both instructors and students. Thanks goes out to all instructors that wel-comed our guests and all students that shared what they were learning with our guests!
