On June 10th, 2016 Glenmont Job Corps Center held it’s quarterly graduation ceremony. It was a great day of celebrations for the students who returned to walk the stage for their diploma. The ceremony opened with a professional placing of the colors by four of our Security/Milcap students. The Star Spangled Banner was then sung by Torrcer Rivers. Dorm counselor, Mr. Butler did a fine job acting as M.C. for the event.
Center Director, Ms. Snape, welcomed the graduates back to Glenmont Job Corps Center and introduced the guest speaker, Director of Albany County Affirmative Action, Mr. Ainsley Thomas. Mr. Thomas gave an outstanding speech to our graduates about the challenges they will face and the tough decisions they will have to make on their journey through life. Mr. Thomas said, “Sometimes you just have to take the bull by the horns and take control of a situation.” He shared his own personal experiences of having to overcome challenges and how he chose the right path for himself. He encouraged graduates to do the same and take responsibility for their own choices in life. The graduates were very receptive to the message he delivered.
The next speech that was made was delivered by graduating student Reggie Evens. Reggie shared his inspiring story of his journey here at GJCC, he arrived with only two bags of clothing to call his own and now he has good job as a Medical Administrative assistant in the Albany and his very own apartment.
Finally after all the speeches it was time for the graduates to walk the stage and receive their diplomas. One could see the pride and joy each student experienced as we acknowledged their successful completion of the program. Family, friends and staff cheered the graduates on as they crossed the stage. After the ceremony there was a celebratory gathering in the tent outside the Red Brick Café where refreshments were served.
Hats Off to the Glenmont Grads!
