The Glenmont Job Corps Center has always loved taking part in thinking PINK in October. For years the center took part in vari-ous activities for fundraising, to which the Student Government Association would donate to a Breast Cancer Fundraiser. This year, although COVID might have put some hurdles in the way, the staff and students jumped those hurdles and showed up again for the amazing cause. Throughout the month of October, staff were able to sponsor students or themselves, if they were feeling up to the challenge, to the Glenmont Breast Cancer Walk-A-Thon! On October 28th, the staff and students walked the famous G-Walk around the center, decked out in their pink shirts. Some students were sponsored a flat fee, while others were sponsored per lap. Three laps equaled just about 3 miles! Student Dyonte Davis took the student crown, with nine laps in the 2 hour time! And in typical Glenmont style, the staff exceeded the original goal…and ended up with a total of $1,116!!! The SGA and Center Director, Erin Ferguson, did some research and found a local charity, To Life, which is dedicated to providing support, education, and resources to women battling breast cancer right near the center (learn more on page 3). They even have a wig boutique, which offers wigs for those women who lost their hair due to chemo. The women who run the center in Delmar, NY, were so grateful and taken aback by the staff and students’ generosity. It was a great feeling on the center being able to give back in such a way!
