GLENMONT STUDENTS WRITE TO SOLDIERS

On Wednesday, November 17th, Reading 1 students took some time to observe Veterans Day. The group began our day by reading the Star Spangled Banner. The class discussed what it means to be a veteran and the struggles that soldiers face during their time in the service as well as after returning home. Many students shared that they have family members and/or friends that have served for our country now, or in the past. Next, the students completed a quiz to see how much they know about the history of Veterans Day. After that, the students each wrote a letter to a soldier. These letters will be mailed out to soldiers with Job Corps students’ addresses in hopes that they will receive some letters in return. Once the letters were completed, the students each participated in constructing an arts and craft project made of the colors red, white and blue. A copy of the letters as well as the arts and crafts projects were hung outside oftthe classroom door in observance of Veterans Day.
