On Saturday, April 16, 2016 Glenmont Job Corps Center students participated in the Town of Colonie’s Global Youth Service Day. Peer Leadership Coordinator Ms. Watts escorted Sabas Barron III, Natiya Catts, Yasmine Melendez-Morales, and Derrick Mason to the Beltrone Senior Living Center in Colonie, NY to participate. There, the students worked on raking leaves for the grounds’ spring cleanup. Meanwhile, Mr. Bowen escorted Shamir Harris, Anthony McLeod, Imari Armstrong and Jonathan O’Donnell to the Pruyn House in Latham, NY where they worked on painting a garden fence.
GJCC received the following email from Carol Fitzgerald of the Fort Orange Garden Club, who worked side-by-side with our students for Global Youth Service Day: “The young men from Job Corps came last week with Mr. Bowen to help with fence work at the Pruyn House in Latham. My garden club, Fort Orange Garden Club, cares for the garden which is enclosed by the fence. When I heard that there was help available to get the fence looking better, I was thrilled to have it! The young men behaved like gentlemen and worked like pros. I promised to send them some pictures of the garden in bloom; they will recognize the fence in the photos.”
We also received compliments from Laura Archambault of the Town of Colonie, who said, “I have received compliments from the staff at Pruyn House and the Beltrone Senior living Center stating what a wonderful job the volunteers from Job Corps did on Saturday! Job well done! We truly appreciate all of their hard work and hopefully we can partner up again next year for Global Youth Servie Day.” The staff at Glenmont Job Corps Center would like to thank these students and all our students that participate in community service for their hard work and professionalism. You make our center proud!
