As the fall season dawns upon us, many of us living in the Northeast seek pleasure in taking brisk walks through the woods. This is just the type of fall experience that the owners of Colonial Acres Golf Course, ICS Audubon, The Colonial Acres Neighborhood Association and many others had in mind when they came up with the idea of creating nature walk to surround the golf course.
A few of our Glenmont Job Corps students helped this idea become a reality! Two of those students, Kamuel Williams and Thabani Thorpe are still here on Center, while the others are now graduates of Glenmont Job Corps. Our students worked during the months of July and August with other community members to create this very special trail that is now open to the public.
As a result of the hard work of our students, Glenmont Job Corps was invited to participate in the Ribbon Cutting ceremony which was held on Oct. 6th, 2015 at 5:30 PM. Ms. Ann Marie Morin,BCL,escorted Kamuel Williams, Queen-Azhane Byrd and Davaughn Gregory to the event. There, the students were greeted by many community members and shared conversations with them. All present expressed their sincere thanks for the participation of GJCC in the project.
After the ribbon was cut, a tour of the nature trail was offered. At the end of the hike, all guests were treated to cookies provided by Glenmont Job Corps Center, and hot drinks provided by Colonial Acres Golf Course. Our students did an awesome job representing our Center at this community event!
