Glenmont Job Corps honored Veterans Day and those who served by participating in several events on and off Center on November 11th.
“We recognize the enormous sacrifices that are made to grant us the opportunities that we have in our country and personal lives,” said Center Director Korey Adams.
The Center Director, Student Government, staff and members of the student body participated in a flag raising ceremony on Veteran’s Day morning. The flag was raised, balloons were released and several student leaders shared some personal stories.
In addition, several members of Ms. Traore’s CNA class made a flag poster and wrote thank you letters to the outstanding men and women who serve our country. They delivered these letters to nursing home patients at the Stratton Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Albany.
“I liked visiting the Vets and hearing about what they did in the war,” said CNA student Ashante Boyd. “At first I felt a bit uncomfortable but then I got used to it. It made me think that I am in the right field,” she added. “The service they provided to our country is really inspirational.”
Several of the patients were visibly moved by the letters the students wrote and the kindness they bestowed. “Hector (a VA patient) started crying when we read our letter to him,” said Sha’Queena Prince, CNA student. “The Veterans were really happy we visited and that made me feel really good too,” she said.
