On Thursday, December 10, 2015 the Glenmont Job Corps Center sponsored a Men’s Day Conference spearheaded by Tracy Battle, Social Development Director. The day began with a continental breakfast provided by the Food Service Department while Mr. Battle and Recreation Supervisor Kyle O’Brey spoke on what the measure of man is. They focused on the need for perseverance, character, ethics, honor, knowledge, responsibility, empathy, respect, loyalty and integrity. Assisting with the morning presentation was Mr. Moses Chestnut, FM Trade Instructor. Rashaad Barksdale, former NFL player gave a motivational presentation on the day’s focus. Thank you to Mr. Matt Leonard, Safety Officer for securing Mr. Barksdale for the conference. Mr. Torson Fullard, TEAP Specialist coordinated a local poet who read poems he wrote specific to the conference theme. Lunch was choreographed by Chef Andy Riggs, Food Service Manager which included the students’ choice of Asian fare which was plentiful. Mr. Rolando Bartley, FM Trade Instructor manned the milkshake machine all day serving many milkshakes. Thanks to Mr. Patrick Thomas, Safety and Security Manager, the Albany County Sherriff’s Department made an afternoon presentation on substance abuse and its ramifications. At the conclusion all student participants were given a ‘Measure of a Man’ sweater. Special thanks to Mr. Battle and his staff in making the Men’s Conference a success!
