SCCC tour 4-2016Recently, Glenmont Job Corps Center and Schenectady County Community College cooperated to establish a Memorandum of Understanding that will enable our students to study there as part of our ACT program. This opportunity is of particular interest to our Culinary Arts students, as SCCC boasts an excellent culinary program.
On Tuesday, April 20, 2016, BCL Ms. Morin and Culinary Instructor Chef Koster escorted six culinary students to SCCC for a tour of their kitchens and a fine dining experience in their Casola Dining Room. Those in attendance viewed the many kitchens that were busy with students in action. After that, they were escorted to the Casola Dining Room, where the theme of the day was south–east Asian cuisine. Tourgoers had a choice of one of each: three appetizers, four entrees, and four desserts, all delicious and presented in a gourmet fashion. After lunch, students were given a tour of the on-campus housing as well. Our students were impressed with the size of the kitchens and the diversity of the programs offered, such as cooking, baking, and hotel and event management to name a few. Some of the students said they were interested in the possibility of attending SCCC after finishing their Job Corps studies.
We will likely arrange for several more trips to SCCC in the future for tours as there are many culinary students that are interested in learning more about our new ACT partnership there.
Staff at both GJCC and SCCC are excited about our new partnership and look forward to offering our students the opportunity to continue their education there.
