Thanks to Recreation Supervisor Mr. O’Brey, Ms. Morin found out about a local art contest. As a result, four of her Art Club student designed and created masks to submit into an art contest called “Faces of Humanity” last Friday. The students that submitted art work were Emily Stamp, James Hill, Takia Williams and Yasmine Melendez.
The task was to create a mask that reflected some part of the human experience or culture. Emily Stamp created a mask titled “Glenmont Mothers”, which represents the experience of motherhood and the challenges mothers face leaving theirchildren behind to study at Job Corps. James Hill’s mask was entitled “Different Worlds”, made to represent how computers influence our lives and how they have the ability to bring us into different worlds, both real and imagined. Takia Williams’ mask, “Mask Muse”, represents the use of masks through the ages. Her work was heavily influenced by Venetian masks. Lastly, Yasmine Melendez created a mask called “Music Mind” which represents how music flows into our minds and out of our mouths, and how it influences and comforts us.
These four students worked really hard to meet the set deadline forthe entry into the contest.
Ms. Morin will escort these students to the art opening of “Faces of Humanity” on February 5th, 2016 which is being held at The Little Gallery at Albany’s Sage College. It is then that they will be able to view their masks on display and see their competition.
