GJCC Class Honors Black History Month-“Women are Beautiful”

Famous women in history was the topic of discussion in Women Are Beautiful, a group run by Ms. Tucker. The conversation highlighted women who were able to make significant changes in the times in their lives simply by standing up for what they believed in. Due to February being Black History Month, the group spent extra time discussing the plight of black women in America, specifically detailing how to develop healthy support systems, self-confidence, and self-worth. The group went to an exhibit at the Hamilton Hill Arts and Crafts Center entitled “Achievement Against All Odds: Portraits of Exceptional Women.” Although the exhibit was not up and running due to an emergency with staff, the group took the opportunity to establish a networking and volunteerism connection with the center to utilize in the future. The group of young ladies instead went to the New York State Museum to review exhibits. The ladies finished up the visit with taking a ride on the carousel, which all of the ladies enjoyed.
